Pre-Placement (previously Pre-Employment) & Other Health Screening

Examinations and interviews related to management referral for:

  • Pre-placement medical clearance
  • Sickness absence
  • Return to work after serious injury or ill health
  • Rehabilitation back to work
  • EQUALITY ACT (EA)

Pre-placement medical clearance based on the screening of candidates written medical questionnaires and selective use of reports from GPs. Medical examinations if necessary from Occupational Health staff.

Drug and Alcohol Screening

Advice on implementing a robust and fair drug and alcohol policy that will address the particular needs of your organisation. Testing procedures that are legally defensible to accepted international standards with established company policies.

Guidance can be given about testing services and detection devices.

Transport

LGV/PSV (D4) and taxi medicals are undertaken either individually or on contract with local authority and hauliers.

Drivers will need to bring to medical examination form D4 from Post Office.

Forklift truck medicals provided as required.

Noise at Work

The Noise at Work Regulations 2005 require employers to prevent damage to hearing. Hearing tests are offered as an individual assessment or a company programme after a survey of the workplace has identified the appropriate action.

Health Surveillance

SWIMS has the appropriate equipment and competence to undertake health surveillance for:

  • Respiratory Function
  • Skin Examination
  • Audiometry Tests
  • Vibration exposure monitoring
  • Vision
  • Night Workers
  • Work-Related Upper Limb Disorder (WRULDS)
  • All testing is to professionally approved medical standards and equipment is maintained and calibrated to manufacture’s specification.

Lead

Under the Control of Lead at Work 2002 regulations people exposed to lead require at least an annual medical examination.

The frequency of the medical may be enhanced depending on laboratory findings from blood and urine samples. SWIMS has experience in dealing with workers exposed to organic or inorganic lead. A useful HSE website publication entitled “Lead and You” can be found here.

Radiation

The Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999 require classified workers to undergo a medical examination every year. They will need to bring records of recent personal radiation dose exposures.

At all HSE statutory medical examinations you will need to bring:

  • Photographic identity
  • National Insurance number
  • GP name address and postcode

Asbestos

Under the Control of Asbestos Regulations employees require medical examination every two years for licensed work. (For those involved in non-licensed work the frequency of medicals is every 3 years).

The employer asbestos licence number is required at medical as an essential part of the documentation. Employees, who are not covered by statutory medicals, with concerns about potential exposure to asbestos fibre can obtain specialist advice by asking their employer to contact SWIMS Ltd.
